Lewis Mack Carmichael

Lewis Mack Carmichael, known as Mack, age 80, of Fultondale, Alabama died May 12, 2020. He was born on July 5, 1939 in Panama City Florida where he attended school and enjoyed playing and joking with friends such as Tommy, Pat, Royal, and Sam. He graduated from Florence State College (now University of North Alabama) where he played football, being named to the Little All-American team his senior year. He also played and excelled in golf and tennis. Following undergraduate he attended the University of Montevallo receiving both his Masters and AA Degrees. 
He was married to Beth Short Carmichael for 59 years. The couple met on her first day of college when Mack told his friends, "she's the one".
Mack is survived by his sweetheart Beth, and his twin brother, Sam, three sisters, Shirley, Gertrude, Margaret, sisters-in-law Jo Ann Harvey and Julia Carmichael and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his precious daughter Lisa Ann Carmichael, who died in 2018, and his parents Lewis and Margaret Carmichael. Beth wishes to give many warm thanks to Mack's friend Sibul Moore whom he loved dearly. Mack coached football for several years at Hueytown High and Ramsay High Schools. He then served as Community School Director for the Jefferson County Board of Education, retiring in 2008.
Mack was of the Baptist Faith and served his community as Chairman of the Fultondale Zoning Board.
He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and just walking in the woods.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday May 16, 2020.  Private graveside services will follow at Walker Chapel Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are by Walker Chapel Funeral Home, 205-849-5000, Fultondale.
