Rayburn Dale “Wildman” Wood, of Fultondale, Alabama, passed away on October 31, 2025, surrounded by love and family. Born to the late Andrew Woods and Laura Ellen Higginbotham Woods, Wildman lived a life full of hard work, laughter, and heart.
He was the devoted husband of Nicky Wood, proud father of Jason (Laura) Wood and Steven Wood, and loving grandfather to Kayla, Callie, Ryan, Cody, and Andrew. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren Kaydie and Payton, and a cherished bonus daughter, Ashley Hayes-Chandler (Chris). He is survived by his sister Ann Smith, and brothers Andy, Rodney, Frankie, and David “Duck” .
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeremy Wood grandson, Justin Woods; sister, Joyce Goodwin; and brother, Jerry.
Wildman was truly one of a kind. For over 50 years, he proudly drove “The Honey Wagon” — his trusty septic tank truck — serving the community with his trademark humor and good nature. He loved cutting grass, visiting the mountains, going to car shows, and spending his mornings with friends at Jack’s. A member of Coalburg Independent Baptist Church and the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Coalburg,” Wildman’s lively spirit left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of UAB Hospital for their compassionate care, and to all family and friends who offered love and support during his illness.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00–8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 noon, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 noon on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Coalburg Independent Baptist Church in honor of Wild Man’s memory.
The pallbearers will be Jason, Steven, Ryan, Cory Wood, Mason McGlathery, and Kevin Smith. Andrew Wood and Payton Woods will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Wildman will be remembered for his stories, his laughter, and the joy he brought to the lives around him — a true original whose legacy of kindness and humor will live on
