Michael Douglas “Mickey” Salathe, age 64 was born in New Orleans, LA and passed away on August 21, 2020. He served in the Marines at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba during the 1970’s, then became a stationary engineer in Texas. He lived in Washington DC and then North Carolina where he completed his life’s journey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard F. and Betty J. Salathe. Mickey is survived by the mother of his children, Anne of Fairfax, VA; children, John Douglas Salathe (Melissa) of South Bound Brook, NJ and Sandra Rose Salathe of Brooklyn, NY. He was the second of seven siblings, Rickie (Carmen) of Kenner, LA, Andy of GA, Joel (Magdalena) of Kingman, AZ, D. Salathe, Eve Smith (Allen) of Gardendale and David (Suzette) of Hoover; aunt, Lane (Jimmy) of GA; uncle, Winnie (Betty) of LA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mickey was a talented and gifted man; he could build his own telescopes. He loved to read and studied religion and martial arts. He was fascinated with space and the stars and now he is in the heavens with the stars. Mickey will be helping others by being an organ and tissue donor. The family would like to thank Edenton House in North Carolina for the kindness shown during his time spent there.
