Melba Joanne (Moore) Barr

Melba Barr (94), of the Walker Chapel community, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026. She was born to James and Ella Mae Moore and lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. 

Melba was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband of 56 years, Rev. Charles E. “Gene” Barr; her brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Renie Moore; her sister-in-law, Bettie Moore; her brother-in-law, Robert Barr; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Nellie Huett; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hubert and Louise Crider.

She is survived by her loving children: Gayle (George) Nix, Robert (Dreama) Barr, and Dana (Tommy) Bowman. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Michelle (Scott) McDonald, Jason (Sunny) Farmer, Lori Nix, Robby (Jennifer) Barr, Chris (Meredith Black) Bowman, Sandy (Brett) Baker, and Rachel Burnett. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Alison, Cameron, Carissa, Nevaeh, Natalie, Amelia, Owen, Jacob, Raegan, Liam, Brooks, Izzy, and Ivie. Additional survivors include her brother, Jake Moore, her sister-in-law, Naomi Barr and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Melba loved her home and took great pride in her yard and the work she put into it. She was deeply devoted to her family, including her church family, and was proud to be the wife of a pastor. She faithfully served her church in many ways, especially enjoying creating floral arrangements for the sanctuary. Melba loved camping, traveling, and embracing new adventures, with her trip to Jerusalem holding a special place in her heart. Independent and adventurous by nature, she approached life with enthusiasm—and her passion and dedication to shopping should have qualified her as a professional shopper. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home, with visitation prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Pastor Johnny Robertson will officiate. Interment will follow at Walker Chapel Memorial Gardens. 

Melba will be remembered for her faith, her servant’s heart, and the love she poured into her family, and everyone blessed to know her.
