Born: April 20, 1930 ... Home going February 25, 2025.
Mary was a very accomplished and elegant business woman, owning and running her own nursing home for over 30 years, and often lobbied as a private citizen for the nursing home industry. She was a Christian her entire life and attended The First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama for many years, and volunteered in the church office.
Mary was an active member of the community wherever she lived, joining numerous organizations and participating as an officer of many. She was President of the Business and Professional Women's Club for over half her life, was an officer in Quota International and was an official of "CITY BEAUTIFUL" in San Diego, California for the time she lived there, participating in numerous tree planting ceremonies and other activities.
Mary also belonged to "WIC" Women's International Center (San Diego) participating as an officer. It celebrated women who were truly accomplished, and included many TV show stars and celebrities, including Dr. Jonas Salk who discovered a vaccine for Polio. These meetings were held at Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. She appeared in numerous "Who's Who" books over the years.
Mary loved her family. Several siblings had moved from Birmingham to San Diego, and they frequently visited, attended social and community events, and travelled to other countries together. Her 2nd, 3rd & 4th cousin, R. H. Dorman, was the Mayor of Coronado; they were photographed together at numerous events. When family would visit from the south, she loved having them stay with her, showing them the attractions around San Diego, and shopping in Mexico.
We are happy for her home going.... but sad she is no longer with us. We're certain she is rejoicing to finally be with her family members who have gone before.
Mary's parents were Grover Webster and Vivian (nee Dorman) Vaughn; siblings who preceded her in death were: Nezalee Thomas, Ruby Nell Doyle, Gerald W. Vaughn, LaVerne Phillips, Edsel Wayne Vaughn, Thomas A. Vaughn, Jack R. Vaughn, Kenneth E. Vaughn. Siblings still living: Mavis Carmichael of Florida, and B. Carol Harris of Kentucky. She left behind many Nieces and Nephews who loved her dearly.
Most of all.... Mary loved JESUS and demonstrated it often.
We love you Mary.. rest in total peace.
