Linn Matthew Slater, Jr

Linn Matthew Slater, Jr. affectionately known as “Chew Chew” passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 at age 38.  He is survived by the only love of his life, his wife, Rebecca Slater; daughter, Ava Slater; father, Edward Mckenzie; mother-in-law, Donna Kanaday; sisters, Raven Slater and Brittany Ridge (Matthew); brothers, Scott McKenzie (Melissa) and Adam McKenzie; sister-in-law, Kim Archer (Doug); brother-in-law, Mark Kanaday (Scarlet); nieces and nephews, Jordan, J.T., Jake, Olivia, Houston, Sophia, Sara, Amelia, Andrew, Lylah, Noah, Hallie, and Aubree; aunts, Cathy Conner (Randy) and Tara Slater; uncles, Steve Strength and Walter Hicks: and a host of cousins, other extended family and friends.  Matt is preceded in death by his parents, Matt Slater, Sr. and Jeanne McKenzie; father-in-law, John Kanaday; grandparents, Edward and Jean Strength, Kyle and Ila Slater, and Ellen McKenzie; two uncles, Mark Slater and Mike Slater; and two aunts, Sherry Hicks and Courtney Slater.  Matt was a 2002 graduate of Fultondale High School and went on to work with the family business, Ed’s Lock and Key.  He was a big Teddy Bear, a caregiver, a humble and simple man who only needed his family to be happy.  His family affectionately remembers that he may be late but he always would be there if you needed him.  He was gentle, patient and kind.  He was a lifelong gamer and coin collector, but most importantly loved his family fiercely. He was the best Dada to his Ava Baby.  Matt will be missed unbearably by his family.  Visitation will be Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at  Walker Chapel Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
