Lena Ruth Rhodes

Lena Ruth Rhodes passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at age 90.  She is survived by two children, Carol Byrd (Steve) and Mark Smith (Vickie); four grandchildren, Carmen Scholl (Scott), Gregory Byrd (Melody), Tonya Jernigan (Cedric), and Lee Smith (Sarah); a host of great and great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rhodes; two grandchildren, Caleb and Christian Holt; her parents, John and Allie Mae Hogeland; and seven siblings.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home. Lena will be laid to rest with her husband, John, at Alabama National Cemetery.  There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Hospital.
