Loving husband and father, James Barney (Billy) Sistrunk went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2020 at the age of 89 years. He passed away in Fultondale, AL where he was a long-time resident.
He was born on March 17, 1931 in Birmingham, AL.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Sistrunk; daughter, Susan Adams (Mark); son, James Michael Sistrunk (Maricor); son, Sidney Jay Sistrunk; son-in-law, Tony Higdon; son, James Rogers (Sherry); son, Doug Rogers; granddaughter, Tina Marie Adams; granddaughter, Leann Sistrunk; granddaughter, Jennifer Sobzcak (Daniel); granddaughter, Jessica Hurdle; grandson, Thomas Rogers; granddaughter, Hannah Tidmore (Wesley); grandson, Drew Rogers, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Etta C. Gore; father, Barney Kelley; and by a daughter, Julie Higdon.
He was retired from IronWorker’s Local 92 where he worked for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He attended Walker Chapel Baptist Church for many years.
The family wants to give special thanks to the Birmingham VA and their home-based primary care group and Affinity Hospice. Special thanks to his nurse, Jennifer Smelley and his homemaker aid, Andrea Harris.
Due to the current healthcare crisis with the Corona Virus Mr. Sistrunk's services will be private. The family will have a public memorial service at a future date once restrictions are lifted.
