James Willard Early

James “Jim” Willard Early passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025.  He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Brenda Early; two daughters, Brandy Sponsler (Matt) and Candace Godsey (Hollis); one stepdaughter, Wanda Burrell (Darryl); one stepson, Leon Hawkins (Melissa); nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and host of other extended family and friends.  Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Louise Early; sister, Jilda Early; and grandson, Jeremy Burrell.  He retired from Rust Engineering after many years of service.  Jim was a lifetime member of Dixie Softball, Inc. where he coached many girls.  The family will receive friends on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Walker Chapel Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Dixie Softball, Inc., 1101 Skelton Drive, Birmingham, AL 35224.  The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Expect Care Hospice and Morris Fire Department for the loving care they provided Jim in his last days.
