Harold Elmer Norton

Harold Elmer Norton of Kimberly, AL, age 71, passed away June 6, 2024 in the Birmingham VA Hospital. He is survived by Sylvia Norton, devoted wife of 32 years; children, Kim Doss (Timothy), Laura Beth Reece (Brandon), and John Norton (Marissa); 5 amazing grandsons; sisters, Mollie Pate (Clayton) and Shirley Gibson. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Rudolphus and Fannie Mae Norton; sister, Artie McDill and brother, Charles Norton Jr.

Harold’s life was one of serving others. He served his country in the US Air Force for 4 years (1970-1974) including two tours in Thailand. He served in his former church at Walkers Chapel Baptist as RA Director for many years pouring his life, time and Jesus into young boys’ lives. He served in his current church, Gardendale First Baptist Church (GFBC), at Camp David, community missions, Builders for Christ mission trips and on the Disaster Relief team helping storm victims. He served his community by cutting grass, fixing lawnmowers and helping neighbors with anything they needed.

Harold loved all things outdoors. He especially enjoyed riding bicycles or dirt bikes, hunting, fishing, camping and restoring old cars. His favorite vacation spot was the beach – any beach! His memory will be treasured, and his absence deeply felt by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home and a funeral service to celebrate Harold’s life will follow at 12:00 p.m. Harold will be laid to rest in Walker Chapel Memorial Gardens.
