Florine Lawrence, 88, of Hayden, AL, passed away 10/1/2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Troy L. Lawrence; her parents, Lora & Sylvester Lowe; five brothers, Jerry Lowe, VW Lowe, O’Neal Lowe, Lewis Lowe and Edward Lowe; sisters, Opal Mathews, Ruthie Dill, and Ann Brown. She is survived by her daughters: Carolyn McGuirk (Tim) and Barbara Creel (Gary); grandchildren: Tami Collum (Davy), Tim McGuirk (Lisa), Christi McGuirk (Laura), Angelia Schmidt (Mike), Todd Creel (Amanda) and Amanda Banta (Travis); great-grandchildren: Natalie, Naomi & Nathan Diaz, Abbi Wheat, Zoie & Chelsie McGuirk, Samuel & Alexandria Schmidt, and Brenna & Tyler Creel; sisters, Wilma Roberts, Bonnie Davis, Vera Mann and Judy Sharit; many nieces & nephews and a host of friends. She was a member of Sumiton Church of God.
While living in Garden City, AL she worked as a seamstress in a sewing factory in Blountsville. Later her family moved to Gardendale, AL and she began working at Liberty Trouser in Birmingham until she retired in 1982. After retirement she spent most of her time traveling, quilting, and gardening. She won a talent contest in the sewing division with one of her quilts, that was sponsored by the Church of God headquarters in Cleveland, TN. She loved tending to her flower beds all around her house. She would spend hours looking through magazines for more flowers to plant.
The family would like to thank the Folsom Center and their employees for the outstanding care their mother received during the 3 years she was a resident there. Also, would like to thank Southern Hospice Care for taking care of her for the last 3 weeks.
Bro Brad Lindsey will officiate the service to be held at Walker Chapel Funeral Home, Fultondale, AL. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 and the service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with burial at Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Warrior.
