Faye Vance Abney, age 87, of Mount Olive, Alabama, went home peacefully to be with her Lord on October 12, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on September 1, 1938, in Wylam, Alabama, to the late Willis Lee Vance and Leona May Fason Vance.
Faye retired from the Jefferson County Probate Court after many years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Church of Mount Olive, where she lived out her deep love for Jesus every day.
A devoted wife and mother, Faye’s greatest joy was her family. She was known for her gentle spirit, her love for all animals, and her unwavering kindness. She enjoyed having yard sales, was a piddler—always finding something to do around the house (whether it needed doing or not)—and loved sitting out in the sun.
Faye would want everyone to know that the most important thing in life is to be ready—to know where you are going after this world. It was her heartfelt desire that all her loved ones come to know Jesus, so that in the salvation of Christ, we will one day be together again. It was her prayer that her family would have that same assurance of faith, so that when our time comes, we will be reunited with her for eternity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dr. Ray Vance (Evie); and her sister, Jo Vance Cox (Clyde).
Faye is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Clarence L. Abney; her children, Steven Lee Abney (Debby), Donna Abney, and Suzanne Abney Fields (Mark); and five beloved grandchildren: Candice Michelle Lippeatt, Joshua Steven Abney (Leah), Jonah Thomas Abney (Denise), Sarah Lippeatt Watson (Tyler), and Rachel Fields Wainman (Logan). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Addison, Lowen, Olivia, Cayson, Hudson, Haven, and another precious great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by two special nieces, Cynthia Cox Salters (Danny) and Karen Cox Salters (Ron), along with many family members and dear friends who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home, followed by an 11:30am graveside service at Walker Chapel Cemetery.
Faye’s life was a reflection of grace, faith, and love. Her legacy will continue to shine through her family and all those whose lives she touched.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
