Debra Ann Garrison

Ms. Debra A. Garrison, of Gardendale, Alabama, passed away on Monday morning, August 18, 2025 at the age of 67 as a result of long-term illnesses associated with end-stage kidney disease and heart failure. During her care, she was surrounded by beloved friends, her pastor, nursing and hospice staff, and close family. She recently recommitted her life to the Lord through baptism.

Despite struggling with numerous childhood illnesses, she achieved the position of 1st chair Violinist in her high school orchestra. She loved animals and enioved watching baseball. For over 40 years, she was an Atlanta Braves fan. She was a mother to two children, one with special needs.

A special and heartfelt thanks is extended to all those who provided a lifetime of care, including nurses, surgeons, doctors, multiple dialysis clinics (including their support staff, caregivers, drivers, and emergency services), and the UAB Kidney Transplant Team. Through dialysis and a cadaver kidney donation, she experienced over 40 additional years of life. Her transplant lasted 27 years so there is hope for the many continuing to wait for a transplant opportunity. Please consider becoming an organ and blood donor if you are able.

Through this priceless gift of organ donation and dialysis support, Debra experienced traveling across the country, the birth of grandchildren, high school and college graduations, weddings, and held her first great-grandchild. She made many friends, especially in the last few years. Her family is thankful for the prayerful and healthy connections. These moments made her life feel special and brought her much joy.

Debra chose cremation. A private ceremony is planned in her home state of Michigan. A Celebration of Life for loved ones will be held this Fall, announced by Compassus Hospice Care of Birmingham, Alabama, in accordance with St. Vincent's/UAB Hospital systems.
