Billie Sue Hulsey (February 10, 1946- July 15th, 2021), of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away after a brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald Junior Hulsey, daughter: Ashley Hulsey Coutch(Shane Coutch), son: Shane Harper Hulsey (deceased 2006), daughter: Sierra Hulsey Stiles (Jimmy Stiles), sister: Carla Cloum, and many friends who will miss her dearly. She was born in Bakersfield, California to parents, Fulton Carl and Tommie Elizabeth Rothell. She moved to Birmingham, Alabama as a child and lived in Homewood, where she met her true love at 16 years old at Oakmont Methodist Church. She graduated from Shades Valley High School. She earned a BS in Biologyfrom the University of Montevallo, and her MS in Biology (cytogenetics) from Samford University. She worked in biological research at Southern Research, and the VA Hospital.She was a high school science teacher at Cathedral Christian School where she taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. She worked doing water quality testing at Barton Lab. She worked as an education administrator at Jefferson State Community College. She loved her Christian/ Methodist church family and continued teaching Bible Studies at church and in nursing homes after retirement. She loved her women’s groups and cherished her friends old and new. She loved her family, the natural world, birding, and sewing art quilts. She was a lifelong student, an artist, and an environmentalist. Services will be held Saturday, July 17th, 2021. Visit with family 10:30 am and memorial service 11:00 am at Lord’s Chapel 2628 Snow Rodgers Rd, Gardendale, AL 35071. At 12 pm, lunch will be served at her home church, Gardendale Mt Vernon United Methodist 805 Crest Drive, Gardendale, AL 35071. Burial will be at Forest Crest Cemetery with no graveside service, 5730 Bankhead Hwy (Hwy 78) Birmingham, AL 35210. Flowers, plants, or donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research in her honor will be appreciated by the family.
