Franziska Myers Obituary (1922

Dec. 12, 1922-Oct. 7, 2015 Frances Myers passed away in Birmingham, Alabama on October 7, 2015, at the age of 92. She was born on December 12, 1922 in Regensburg, Germany. A life-long Catholic, her parents' names were Franziska Schmidl (born 1906) and Xavier Zoglmeier (born 1902). After her father's death at an early age, Frances' mother married Franz Liebl around 1936. Frances was 14 years old when Liebl and her mother had the first of five children born to the couple. Her surviving siblings still living in Germany are Werner Liebl, Manfred Liebl, Helmut Liebl, Helga Krumbach and Waltraud Schachow. The family was trained in music and some were accomplished musicians. Werner became a well-known opera singer later in his life. In March 1942 she married Theodor Asheuer. In 1944, Frances' only son Gerhard (Gary) was born. Theodor was called out to war and thought to be dead. On October 26, 1952, Frances married an American serviceman, Freeman Myers, who was stationed in Germany after WWII. In 1954, Freeman and Frances travelled to the United States and settled in Townley, Alabama. Frances enjoyed the farm life in Alabama, knitting, and swimming (year round) in a large swimming pool that the couple built on the property. For as many years as she was able, she played the piano and organ for the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jasper, Alabama. On October 31, 2000, Frances suffered an aneurysm while visiting the home of her granddaughter, Frances Jones. Since that time she was confined to assisted care facilities. Freeman Myers died in 2010. Frances is survived by her son, Gary, and his wife, Mary Jo Myers, of Mt. Olive, Alabama. She has two grand-daughters, Frances Jones of Hoover, Alabama and Melinda Jones of Spanish Fort, Alabama. She has five great-grand-children; Felicia Jones, Olivia jones, Harrison Jones, Ian Jones and Isabel Jones. A visitation is to be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Walker Chapel Funeral Home in Fultondale, Alabama. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM.
