Mr. Walter Henry Knapp went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 27th, 2017 after an extended illness. Walter was born in Tampa, FL on December 14th, 1951 but later moved to Africa with his parents, who were Baptist Missionaries, in 1964. Already an accomplished pianist at an early age, Walter took piano lessons and became well known for his gift at the Rift Valley Academy and later returned to graduate high school in Deland, FL. Upon graduation, Walter moved to North Carolina and attended the North Carolina School of Fine Arts. He also studied with a professor from Juilliard who helped him become a true professional with his instrument of choice. After his second year, Walter returned to Tanzania to be with his parents. On the way, he stopped off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he performed for many internationals at the US embassy, which was reported by the local newspaper as a “great triumph”. Walter's favorite year was the year that he spent in Tanzania where he spent time helping his parents and befriended many of the local residents. Walter, once again found himself returning to the US to finish school and graduate from Samford University with a Master's degree in Piano. He went on to play the piano for many churches, teaching many students and tuning pianos for small and important occasions. He was also chosen as a feature artist for the Yamaha Disklavier and many of his piano arrangements were published.

Walter's best friend was his first student and then dear friend, Pat Powell. They celebrated holidays together, made trips together and shared many happy times.

Mr. Knapp was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Joan Knapp, sister-in-law, Martha Knapp, and most special friend, Patricia (Pat) Powell.

Walter is survived by his father, Douglas M. Knapp, one sister, Suzanne and husband, Verl Lynn Groce, two brothers, Dr. Richard M. Knapp and wife, Kimberly, and Dr. Edison L. Knapp and wife, Dr. Renda Knapp as well as a host of friends who will forever remember him for his loyalty and sense of humor.
