Steven Leatherwood Obituary

Steven ‘Donald’ Leatherwood, (‘Alabama’ to his co-workers), went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2024. Donald was born in Birmingham, AL on April 7, 1960. He was raised in Fultondale, AL. Donald was a member of the Boy Scouts as a child and enjoyed the outdoors. 

 

He met the love of his life, Amanda, in December 1982. They got married on June 1, 1983 and moved to Marietta, GA shortly after. There they went on to create a life together with three children. 

 

Donald worked for the Cobb County Department of Education in the transportation division on South Cobb Drive from 1988 until his retirement in 2017. He also worked a secondary job at Marietta Toyota in the 90s as well as assisted his friend sell cars at O’Brien & Co in his spare time. 

 

His hobbies included NASCAR, Auburn Tigers football, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved music with his favorites being Fleetwood Mac, Lynard Skynard and Britney Spears. 

 

Donald was a beautiful human being with the kindest soul. He was always doing things for others, never expecting anything in return. He was a true servant of God, and will be missed by everyone. 

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Orby & Willie Mae Leatherwood, brothers Bobby, Danny, Larry and Jerry, and his former wife, Amanda Leatherwood. 

 

Survivors include daughters Crystal (Brian) Green of Cedartown, GA and Jessica (Travis) Stroup of Jefferson, GA and son Steven Leatherwood of Cleveland, AL. Also granddaughters Claire Green and Madeline Stroup, and grandson Landon Green. 

 

He is also survived by his sisters Rosemary (Rick) Smith, Linda (Mark) Polarie, Peggy (Jose) Tineo, and Teresa Leatherwood. 

 

Arrangements are being coordinated by Walker Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life ceremony to be held Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Center Point Church of the Nazarene located at Westchester Drive, Birmingham, AL.
