Jennie Styles Pate

Jennie Styles Pate went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at age 97.  She is survived by her daughter, Joy Pate Morris; step daughter, Sue Turner Whitlock (Buddy); step grandchildren, Susan Hall (Mark), Patsie Jones, and Tim Whitlock (Sarah); several step great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other extended family; and special friends, Eddie & Sandy Deason and family: Shane, DeeDee, Madison, & Kori Kilby and David, Kati and Harlan Deason.  Mrs. Jennie married Emmett Foust Pate on May 2, 1947 and was married to him for 49 years until his death, December 31, 1996.  She reconnected with her first boyfriend 60+ years later, Pat Turner in 2002 and had 5 years with him until his death in 2007.  She is also preceded in death by her parents, Sherman E. Styles & Jennie Ellen Smith Styles and her son, Emmett Foust Pate, Jr.  Mrs. Jennie was a multi-talented lady who worked at Liberty National during WWII then JP Ballard and then returned to Liberty National.  She then was one of the 2 original teachers of the Gardendale First Baptist Kindergarten and then served as director for 10 years.  After directing the kindergarten, she went to work at Sherwin Williams.  She was appointed by Bill Noble, mayor of Gardendale, as the first woman on the Park & Recreation Board of Gardendale.  The Miracle Field in Gardendale named their field for her “Pate Field”.  She taught Sunday School at Gardendale First Baptist for years where she was a member.  Mrs. Jennie lived in Gardendale since 1949 and the lives touched by her are countless.  Her smile was contagious and everyone she met knew she genuinely cared for them.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Moncrief Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:
